Visual Minutes

Conferences bring together stakeholders, idea generators, experts and supporters into one space to solve a complex problem. When a group collaborates, everyone gets challenged by the topic, and creates a new result that can change the world.

The visual minutes become the collective memory of the group. Drawing the minutes of a workshop is a process of capturing words, themes, ideas and metaphors that are floating through the air. The activity of giving these ideas a home on paper, crystallizes a brainstorm into action points. Add value to a discussion by shaping, curating, and highlighting where there is repetition, agreement and articulation. You can feel the excitement in the air.

Along with the presenters, delegates now see that their ideas having a space at the conference. This is a very important resource and generous to acknowledge. Delegates want to be a part of the future, have chosen to spend time and money to participate and have valuable contributions from their own professional and personal experiences.

Here are a few images of my recent work at the Ontario College of Art and Design Cultural Knowledge and the Healthy Society: A Research & Innovation Summit. (original size 5′ x 8′)

What you see here is the shape of the drawings reflecting the organic discussion and an energy that was in the room. These images may seem difficult to navigate, however, if you were a participant in one of these discussions, this drawing would engage your memory. Further, by providing a visual element to the discussion people absorb more insights and retain them longer.
